Owing to continued growth and high demand for its services, the company is seeking to recruit a Solar PV consultant to join our expanding solar team in China.

Job description

The principal responsibilities of this post include:

  • Manage/support solar project developments, providing engineering input from initial assessment through to technical and economic feasibility, due diligence, construction monitoring and acceptance (primarily in the megawatt scale)
  • Conduct audits of PV module manufacturing facilities
  • Review solar PV technology in relation to industry standard test certification
  • Review and prepare technical documents including specifications, reports, proposals, calculations and contracts
  • Site visits in China and abroad
  • Provide technical support to clients
  • Technical assessment of PV products and equipment
  • Promote SgurrEnergy’s solar services in a business development role
  • Other ad hoc activities as and when required

Essential criteria

  • Undergraduate degree in an engineering or science based subject
  • An expert knowledge of solar energy technology and projects
  • Ability to manage project work without supervision
  • The ability to produce high quality technical reports in English and Chinese, to predefined deadlines
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • A flexible and proactive approach
  • Reliability and good organisational/project management skills
  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a multi-disciplined team
  • A confident communicator
  • Competent user of main Microsoft packages
  • Fluent in English and Chinese, both written and spoken

Desirable criteria

  • A postgraduate qualification in an energy related subject with specialisation in solar PV
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a consultancy environment working on megawatt scale solar PV plants
  • Competence in understanding solar EPC and O&M contracts
  • Previous experience in a solar PV module testing environment
  • Experience in PVSYST PV yield prediction software
  • Foreign language skills
  • Previous experience in managing a team of engineers
  • An understanding of the key technical and commercial aspects of solar projects in China and Asia

Hours: 38.75 hours per week. Occasional evenings to attend meetings
Holidays: Starting 14 days and Chinese public holidays (increasing with length of service)
Contract: Permanent after 5 month probationary period

Involve in all technical work completed in the China office. This will include the China office due diligence, owner’s engineer and wind energy product (Lidar, Performance Monitoring).

  • Site visit for operational wind farm, focus on turbine inspection.
  • Factory visit, particular for the WTG and PV module manufacturer
  • Lidar deployment and logistics, campaign design
  • Assist with field work, including wind turbine micro-siting, equipment procurement, logistics, and supervision of site investigation works
  • Support other field engineering staff with construction supervision as required
  • Prepare technical specifications for site investigation studies and construction works.
  • Assess and supervise the quality of work onsite on the behalf of clients

Essential criteria

  • A relevant engineering degree, mechanical/civil are preferred.
  • Appropriate postgraduate experience and a proven track record at wind farm developer or design institute
  • The role is client facing and so must be a confident communicator with smart appearance
  • Applicants must demonstrate a high level of problem solving ability and initiative
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work
  • An interest in renewable energy and sustainability
  • Experience of working on multiple concurrent projects
  • Fluent in Chinese, English is preferred

Desirable criteria (if applicable)

  • 3-5 years experience of wind energy industry. On site engineer is preferred.
  • Strong commercial skills
  • Experience of wind farm O&M.
  • Knowledge of customer management techniques including key account management, sector development and strategic targeting
  • Willingness to travel in mainland China and internationally

The candidate will assist our project manager to complete all technical work completed in China office. The main focus is on renewable power plant technical due diligence, but also cover the section on asset management and post assessment.   • WTG technology review, including review WTG relevant technical documents; specification, reports and drawings against customer requirements.

  • Provide project management of a global range of multi-disciplinary renewable energy projects, with an initial focus on the construction phase of hydropower developments
  • Lead and interface with a team of specialists to progress and deliver renewable energy projects through pre-construction and construction phases
  • Progress projects in accordance with the pre-defined budgets, deadlines and quality requirements
  • Lead and contribute to the development of technical schedules of EPC, BoP, TSA and MSA contracts
  • Lead Invitation to Tender, tender evaluation and contract negotiation processes.

  • Contribute to business development activities and assist in securing new projects and opportunities for the company

Essential criteria

  • More than 2 years of experience in the construction of Hydroelectric power station
  • More than 2 years of experience in project management for a renewable energy technology development
  • A good degree in a relevant engineering, technical or scientific discipline
  • High levels of problem solving ability, initiative, thoroughness and attention to detail
  • Ability to prepare and write high quality concise documents
  • Excellent project management, organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage own time effectively and prioritise own work load to allow timely delivery of tasks
  • Ability to report project status accurately and concisely
  • Ability to manage and mentor a small team of project engineers or assistant project managers, and to delegate responsibilities
  • Practical understanding of safety regulations

Job description

  • Use standard wind projecting software to analyze wind resources, design preliminary wind farm layouts, and calculate wind farm energy yields;
  • Review and translate documentation in both Chinese and English;
  • Assist in the preparation and writing of reports.
  • Assist in liaison with industry clients.
  • Assist the senior renewable energy consultant with field work, including equipment procurement, logistics, and wind farm site selection, wind monitoring station setup and surveying, wind turbine micro-siting, and supervision of site investigation works.
  • Support other field engineering staff with construction supervision as required.

Essential criteria

  • A science or engineering degree in earth or atmospheric sciences, or physics, or electrical / mechanical fields.
  • You must be fluent in written and spoken English and Chinese, other languages would be an advantage.

  • You will need to be highly motivated, and able to work reliably without supervision.
  • You will need to be confident and prepared to work in difficult field conditions, including working at heights on towers in cold weather.
