Combination of Rothes Distillers Ltd (Energy from waste plant development)

SgurrEnergy were commissioned to assess the feasibility of developing a bioenergy plant from distillery waste product.

SgurrEnergy assessed the feasibility of a number of options for waste disposal and advised on the development of a bioenergy plant from a financial and technical feasibility perspective. The role included assessment of company pre-qualification documents, preparation of tender enquiry and evaluation of invitation to tender responses, assistance with planning consents, contract negotiations, project administration, site monitoring and supervision, safety/quality/environmental considerations, cost control, programme co-ordination, design review and technical appraisal, and operation and maintenance.

Braemar Community Biomass Study

SgurrEnergy staff worked with local residents, Braemar community council, Aberdeenshire council, SCHRI, the Energy Savings Trust and Aberdeenshire Energy Advice project to investigate the prospects for a district heating scheme in Braemar.

Our staff undertook a detailed energy audit of the properties to evaluate energy requirements, load profiles, current costs and community cost/benefit analysis of energy saving measures. The findings showed that biomass fired district heating could provide environmental benefits and local employment opportunities, with the project itself potentially fulfilling the community’s aspirations of affordable, warm homes.

Longannet and Cockenzie Biomass Plants - HAZOP 3 Studies

HAZOP Studies were carried out on the biomass plants at Longannet and Cockenzie power stations where SgurrEnergy acted as Chairman and Secretary. This process was to identify any processes or parameters that could contribute to hazards and operability issues associated with the design and operation of the biomass plant such that any hazards can be eliminated or protected against by modifying the detailed design and operational and maintenance procedures.
